I scanned a photograph to my laptop and put it into the Photos file. There is some writing on the photo which I hoped I would be able to remove using Paint shop pro but when I try to open up the said photo a message comes up "The specified file cannot be identified as a support type". I have tried putting it into a different file but to no avail. Is there a way of overcoming this problem.
Thank you for any help.

What is the original files type?

You said you have tried putting it into another filetype. Presumably with the program you used to scan the photo. Using this program you should be able to save it as a tiff which is a very common type that will definitely work with Photoshop.
