Message on screen !

Please help, I have been using Family Tree Maker for about a week, quite successfully. My information was downloaded by GEDCOM. However today I cannot get into it at all, I get this message:-
PLEASE CHECK THE "DIRECTORIES" & "DRIVES" FIELDS TO ENSURE THAT YOU ARE SUPPLYING THE CORRECT PATH.
Please help me, I am quite a novice in this, I hope I have not lost all my info.

It comes up with that message when you haven't loaded a tree. Try opening your file up through the FTW menu if you haven't already done so.

What do you mean by "your information was downloaded by GEDCOM"?

Was it working ok before you exported?
Did it stop working immediatley afterwards?

I wonder if the export has moved your data rather than just copying it?

Are you able to find your datafile if you search or use windows explorer?

Were you using FTM when he unplugged? Sounds like the file might have got corrupted. I believe FTM makes a backup copy though.

Rename the original then rename the backup to the database file. That MIGHT cure it. Emphasis being on "might".

By windows exporer, I mean righ tclick on the start button and choose "explore". Can you find it that way or via "my computer"?

I wasn't using it when he unplugged. Thankyou, you probably think I am thick, I have tried explorer as you said and it is not listed under programmes. Nor under my computer.

It will probably be under "my computer" --- "c drive" ----"FTW" and have an icon that looks like a family tree on its side.

I have clicked on the GEDCOM which was in my documents and that seems to have re installed it into FTM. I do not know if this was the correct thing to do but at least I have got it back, but with a different name! Thank you for your help.

My pleasure. So it's all back to normal now?

Make sure you back it up in future though just in case it happens again.
