What is causing this?

Does anyone know why on my computer desktop my icons no longer open the programme when double clicked? Instead it displays the properties etc. I dont know how to make it back to the usual state of opening the required programme when double clicked on..please help.my system is windows xp pro..thanks in advance:~}

What happens if you double-click with the RIGHT button?

You could try using system restore to go back to the settings at a previous time.

Start menu
All programs
Accessories
System tools
System restore

choose a date before you noticed this was happening

When I right click the box comes up as if ive selected properties?
