Because the cable used to connect your PC to the TV is for picture only.
If you hook up a normal monitor to your PC, you'll notice you dont get sound from it.

What you'll need to do is get an audio cable and connect it from the audio out on your PC to audio in on your TV.

You should now have sound as well as picture

Yep. Understand that thanks. I do however get video through the pc cable link but not when running a dvd. Is it that I should be using a firewire cable thingy??
no a jack to jack lead should suffice from you headphone in your laptop to the pc audio jack in teh back of your telly

Sorry, I dont think i`m asking the question right...I am getting sound ok now by phono sockets. However I cant gat video on to my monitor from a dvd, if that makes sense?? Regards.
Are you getting any picture at all on your TV - i.e. the desktop?

Is it just a DVD which isn't showing up on the TV?

I can see my desktop and all the other thing, files pics etc.But when I try to run a video through it I get no sound or video. I understand the phono socket are for sound but the video is a mystery!!
Strange one.

Usually with a laptop, you'd need to hit Function+F4 (or similar) to transfer the screen to your external screen (in this case, your TV), but sometimes, the picture comes up automatically.

Why it would decide to just not show video, im not sure.

I'd really need to check it out for myself to figure it out, im afraid.

What media player are you using (not that that should make any difference, like!)

Thanks for the input. Very strange indeed. It seems its not the media player as i can play video off the wb on any media device. It seems to be struggling to run the dvd. Regards.
