computer cleanup

Hello, forgive me here folks but i'm not the most intelligent when it comes to computers........basically its a three part question...
1) Firstly,theres a small icon at the bottom right hand side of my screen, its of an eye with a red stop sign connected to it, you cant click on it, and it flashes up privacy settings when you place the cursor over it. This comes up on websites that it hadnt come up on before, so does anybody know what this means

2)Secondly, does your computer run slower if you have a trojan virus or can you still have a virus and it run quite quick, bearing in mind its windows xp and i've had the computer about five years so its not top of range?

3)Lastly, because i am unsure whether my computer is infected or not, is it safe to run smit fraud fix to clean my computer up just in case, or should that only be used if you are sure you have a virus on there??

1) Sounds like Privacy Danger

2) Depends on the infection

3) Why Smitfraudfix, without knowing what the problem is? That targets specific infections, it's not a general use tool. You could try it, but run it on Option 1 first, to ensure it is finding an infection.
