I have recently bought a Sanyo Widescreen TV (not brand new) & it sometimes makes a high pitched whistling noise, especially if it's been moved. A very gentle tap occasionally stops it). Can anyone tell me why & is it a serious fault?

Almost certainly a solenoid. Mum-In-Law had this on her Philips. Engineer fitted new one in an hour (don't know cost, as guaranteed) bbb
yeah this happens when i turn my tv on too, i generally ignor it. It too stops after a gentle tap but even without this it stops on its own accord after about 30 seconds, i just put this down to warming up ... i wouldn't both getting anything replace if i was you mines been doing it for about 3 years ... a little annoying but not very much

Thanks both - have talked to someone & decided to stick with the violence & harsh words for now!! (There's probably a law against it!)
