i have really old ones that i sometime need to use, and have to use the phone to retrieve them, which of course needs a pass number to get into, all very confusing.

Buy yourself a little notebook, Emmie. That's much easier, although it will be a faff, writing them all down.

Most of mine aren't memorable. That's why I record them in a password protected spreadsheet.

I have variations on the same theme but do associate them to a particular site for eg: AB I know its Muppets. ;-)

It isn't really before anyone gets in a panic.

You don't need to remember passwords - you choose a theme eg, the registration number of your first/favourite car or your NI number, along with something related to the site you want the password for. So for example, your password for SSE energy might be Ab04abcsse OR ab04abcSSE OR AB.04.ABC.SSE etc. It's easy to remember the "fixed" part and the variable part you can easily work out.

Not all sites accept the same password format, though. Some demand at least one capital, some a mix of numbers and letters, some won't accept punctuation marks and most have a minimum and maximum number of characters.
