Why is the colour default on every new laptop/pc milky mauve?

Why don't we get the neutral grey that it should be?? OK when you can change it, but on my latest one doesn't give me that optionin the nvidia control panel.

Taking a stab in the dark here.

Right-click on desktop and choose 'desktop background'. under 'How should the picture be positioned' tick the right one, then you will get a 'change background colour' option. Then choose the colour you want and we're all happy.
