I have a black mark, blob on the back of the screen. It is up the top so doesn't so much interfere with what i can view, however it's very noticeable,
In case you don't understand, it's not on the screen itself, so could wipe off with screen cleaner, but inside. Any ideas how it got there, or what i could do to get rid of it. Hope that makes some sense.

hate to be the bearer of bad news, but possibly the monitor might be on its lats legs. Hopefully a techie will be more positive.
what type of monitor / screen lcd or crt ?
love the picture of the cats.

crikey, dell inspiron laptop. Better not be on last legs, it isn't that old.
Is it a little fly? they quite often manage to get in-between the layers of the screen.

If it is there's not a lot you can do about it.
But the good news is that if it is a fly it will soon disintegrate and won't be noticeable.
You say that, but my fathers had two dead thunder flies stuck in his monitor for about two years now.
As has been hinted, monitors don't last forever and are not cost effective to even try to repair. Fortunately, they're quite cheap these days: http://uk.insight.com...lts?K=ProLite&x=0&y=0
Is it easy to replace a laptop screen? I've often wondered....
It's fairly easy on most laptops, just split the screen bezel apart, normally remove the cover from along the top of the base of the laptop undo the handful of screws holding the screen in and unplug it.

It's about a 10-15min job on most laptops (I say most because there are some where it can be a real pain)
Thanks Chuck.
Yes it is, so long as you know what you're doing!

I've got a little fly under the screen of my laptop. Been there for a good few years. And it still bugs the hell out of me.
For some reason I thought it would be a lot more difficult. Then again, I thought building a PC was for experts only and yet here I am sitting next to one I built from scratch with no previous experience. :)

no it's not a fly, sorry to not get back before. It looks like an black ink mark, not really sure i would be up to opening out the casing to sort it out.
I do pay a monthly fee for so called expert technical help, however i have been reluctant to call them, as the last time i did this, i ended up with no computer for a year. Long story. Plus i have heard some horror stories of computers being lost, or wiped clean..
Would it be advisable to at least call them, and ask what can be done..
It might also be a dead pixel then, again not a lot that can be done about it if that's the case (other than change the whole screen)

Why on earth do you pay a monthly fee for tech support from a company that kept your computer for a year and you're scared to use because of horror stories you've heard about them.
Re The Big Bang Theory, Raj has 3pixels mixxing from his tv screen, Sheldon was compelled to go to Raj's. Sheldon says 'oh great, we watching Harry Potter and 98 per cent of the Philosophers Stone'

Em. cancel your monthly payment and see a local pc guy.
Type Your Answer Here...mixxing?? duh missing
Question Author
that was a different computer, and different company.
Question Author
the somewhat more recent company persuaded me to pay a monthly fee for technical help. I didn't know whether to at the time because of the bloody nightmare i had with the previous computer, company.
