laptop partition gone ????

help i have been trying to reboot my laptop back to factory settings ( as ive done before)
but now it tells me my partition drive is gone ???
i have had a look and my d drive which is used for restore is all red
its a presario cq61
and i have no idea what to do now
been on to hp no joy been on to compaq even less joy
can anyine please help

Have you messed with any software that can/will protect/scramble a drive?
What does Disc Management say/display?
