I'm thinking if you pay after being approached about it, that's not playing the game, being an upstanding Englishman.
Why Tories?
Question Author
Naomi,
You might read about it in The Telegraph tomorrow. Or then, maybe not.
No point posting it if you’re not going to tell us what you’re talking about.
Question Author
A prominent Tory MP has made a settlement with the tax people with a sum of some £3,000,000.
The question might arise now, when did he pay it and when was he aware the taxman was looking into his business affairs?
Oh ok. Do we know or is it a guessing game?
okay thats the Kwasi one again. Apparently both sides say "there was no wrongdoing", described as a dispute and he paid it saying it was just to settle the dispute.... all to do with money in family trusts. Most rich people do it, more tories than socialists/liberals I'm sure but its not a party thing
I'm thinking if you pay after being approached about it,
then you pay more tax ( v v un English)

"oops I forgot" declaration ( late) inevitably attracts the tax charge you forgot and a surcharge ( penalty) that you negotiate yourself !! and it around 30% for this little error

If you are unwise enough to make it to criminal court - then the fine is the tax unpaid (one)
There is then the tax to pay the tax man ( two )
and penalties - not more than the tax owed ( three )

yup three times the tax owed - - oooowwww!

(but you knew that anyway innit?)
Question Author
PP,
No I didn't. Taxes have never been any trouble to me.
Thought I've always claimed tax relief on charitable donations though not having paid any.
Oh ok. Do we know or is it a guessing game?
nope
it is a reading game - - PP searches convulsively and reports:
"er the thread has been deleted"
no wonder you dont know about it Naomi, you're only a mod ( ter-daah)

and there was a daily mail ref

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11637345/Former-chancellor-Nadhim-Zahawi-pays-millions-settle-tax-row-probe-family-business.html

shush I must not say his name or else I will be deleted as well !
Originally by Gully, but it has Gone With The Wind!
sorry yes thats the one I meant...it was discuused at length on here yesterday ...was it Hymie??
i think yesterdays thread about Zahawi has been pulled... for legal reasons
It has gone hasnt it?
presumably because a school leaver ( or usual suspect) thought it was libellous against THAT politician. Jesus

GiftAid - I give no other way. ( er I DO give and only by Giftaid)
Question Author
I do hope there are no super injunctions involved.
the youtube clip was suggesting it was criminal but also said it was avoidance which isnt necessarily illegal
If something is true, then you can say it

That is why Boris is frequently complemented as a damned liar ( he is) and dismissed for fraud ( he was, more than once)

Defences against moden libel - - bleeeeuch.

Did anyone notice Police Girlie on overturned bus - Zummerzet?
"We cant say much it is still under investigation"
Yes we can ! - until someone is charged
talk about making up rules as you go along
I think the buss case is different.... unwise for girlie to speculate until all facts are known
I do hope there are no super injunctions involved.
Gosh ! Eek ! so do I

They are here
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super-injunctions_in_English_law
at page 159

My own view is that superinjunctions were a creature of Easy J. There was even talk of 'clock watching' amongst lawyers so that they cd apply for injunction during Eady's time on duty because he was an easy touch for his own gadget and other judges spurned it. In the end the LCJ said, they existed but should be granted on the same grounds as unicorns, flying pigs or unicorns
now read on

some of the other article look quite good
this looked quite good I mean
