Was it a dairy farm your grandfather had? Could it be a cheese spoon?

Similar to a Garlic Spade/Scoop, but maybe a bit too early for that?

OH says could it be an old marrow spoon, for scooping out the flesh.
My guess would be an old fashioned corer

Thanks mamya. I don`t think it`s that though. It is 23cm in length and the little spade shaped part is 3 cm wide. I would think it is pretty old - maybe 100 years as it probably came from my Grandfather`s farm.

BTW - I found an odd fork with the same handle so it must have been part of a set

Eccles - I don`t know. I know he had Devon cattle but I don`t know whether they were beef or dairy - beef I think. They also grew a lot of vegetables.
Like Eccles I think it is a spoon for taking a sample of cheese.
Question Author
Yes, I think it must be a cheese spoon. In any case, it`s off to the charity shop. Thanks for all the answers and for clearing that up.
Stilton cheese spoon. Got one.
I concur with Eccles its an old cheese spoon probably stilton.

Thanks for the further replies. I remember the landlord in our pub used to buy a massive stilton and pour port into it in the run up to Christmas. The spoon would be quite useful with one of those. I might keep it - even if only to dip into those little china stilton pots that are on sale at Christmas.
Judging by the wonkiness in it it has been well used. I'd keep it and use it too!

Eccles - it`s not wonky. It`s curved - it`s just the angle that it was laying at when the photo was taken.
I had images of it getting twisted out of shape through years of use. :-(

For something that takes up so little space I'd keep it even if it only saw the light of day once a year. I find something quite satisfying about using heirlooms.
