Grand Prix

During today's race Alonso's team radio spoke to him in Italian, and the commentator stated that the rule was that this should be done in English. Is this true? And in any case why would they use Italian when he is Spanish??

I didn't know it made a difference. They should just insist they were speaking english and that the commentator wasn't hearing it right because his ears are dyslexic.
yes, i remember that.
i cannot speak for the rules, but it is the first time i've heard a non-english radio transmission.
and i was not aware alonso spoke italian
Because Ferrari are an Italian team. Were you watching the BBC coverage? I didn't hear anyone say that it had to be in English..
Could that be a rule so that the stewards can monitor transmissions to ensure there are no team orders or other infractions?
Just surmising.
