I say 'of'
I don't think I have ever heard anyone say 'to' as opposed to 'that'
I would say of as well
of
I prefer "of that".
I dislike the current use "for free"...either "free" or "for nothing".
Ignore me - I'm going home in 45 mins

I watch Bargain Hunt, and OF is used quite a lot, or so it seems to me.
and I cant stand it when people say they got off of the bus.

Grasscarp, would you like them to say "I alighted from the bus"? Too long!!
There's also 'bored of' and 'bored with' (Another of those irritating things I keep going on about)
No, that they got off the bus. They didnt get off OF the bus.
@Baldric..I was quite alarmed when I looked at your avatar then! ! It looked like something very phallic until I zoomed in on it... lol! !!!
grasscarp, "get off the bus" is acceptable usage and has been for many years!
Another example-waiting on someone instead of waiting for...
Woofgang (and Cailin) I am not complaining about getting off the bus!
I am saying it should not be "off OF the bus".
waiting on is the older usage....comes from the time of waiting women whose job was literally to wait until they were needed and wait on the nobility
sorry GC, my mistake...but "off of" while old fashioned, is correct too!
^ ^ Really??????
It really irritates me when people use "need" instead of "want" or like" as in "I need to talk to you" instead of "I want (or would like) to talk to you". The usage sounds so imperious or demanding.
