Do you think applying this verse would help marriages last? Read Matthew 5:28.

1. Yes.
2. No.
I very much doubt it.
Religion caused my divorce.....x
Yes, the Bible can definitely help with prolonging marriages.

After all, I'm sure that every woman here agrees with Ephesians 5:22-33, don't they?
"Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. . .. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything"
How could that possibly be controversial to a modern, liberated woman?
" But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart."

Mmmm, theoretically quite possibly correct, but I do think one could still cut human nature a little slack...............
Matthew 5: 27-28
"You may have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery.' But I say that every one who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart."

If anything it'll have the opposite effect.

I mean If you know you're already condemned just for looking at someone's ar5e, you could well think 'sod it, I may as well go the whole hog and start an affair'
There are many reasons. Go to any 7steps programme for people who have ended their marriages and you will find out more.
To give you some rough ideas: people end their relationship as some partners are judgemental, do not listen, unconfrontable, plus they are unwilling to resolve their family or origins issues that thet drag with them from one relatiosnhip to another.
How many marriage guidance counsellors apply biblical passages such as this to demonstrate the importance of the union?

I think I can answer my own question.
Chris, Chris... you really should, for the sake of fairness, include the following verses from which you quote:

"...25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing[b] her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— 30 for we are members of his body. 31 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”[c] 32 This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. 33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband..."

//// But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. ////

No offence, but how would that help a marriage last??

Just because I like a bit of window shopping every now and again, doesn't mean I'm going to purchase the goods.

We're only human; no harm in looking in my opinion :)
So long as it's not lustfully ;-)

Goodlife, do you have a Link to that Verse please, not usually a problem for you, but I prefer not to handle a bible!
The quote is as above by Builder, Scorpio and Giz.
May as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb.

So, where's that new secretary then ....

Jesus knew that what we take in through our eyes can affect our heart.

People sometimes say: Don’t start what you can’t finish.’ But in this case we should say: ‘Don’t start what you can’t stop.

So is the Bible being unduly restrictive?
Unsure I could stop being human just yet.
Goodlife, are blind people exempt?
