Have the atheists and theists agreed to study war no more and live in peaceful silence? I've never seen it so quiet...

To the OP, I think the theists may have decamped to Q&P. Eerily, Agnus Dei is an answer in both yesterday's Guardian and today's Everyman crosswords.
"From the strong came forth sweetness" or should it be the other way round lol.

Naomi, are you impuning the sobriety of L-I-K?
:o)
One thing the apostle Peter, after warning to be on guard against the Devil, who prowls about like a roaring lion seeking to devour you, gives assurance: “After you have suffered a little while, the God of all undeserved kindness, who called you to his everlasting glory in union with Christ, will himself finish your training, he will make you firm, he will make you strong. (1 Peter 5:8-10) Considering all this divine support, one thing is apparent God’s love is unfailing, any separation from it will be our fault, not his.
any lion that is in a cage has some degree of tameness...

lion tamers go into cages all the time - people swim with great white sharks, charm deadly snakes etc...

id like to have seen this man just go up to a pack of lions in the plains - or even a safari park - armed with just his faith...

there are many many incidents of religious idiots trying to 'test' gods power and prove his existence by performing some life threatening feat and claiming they will be unscathed because god will save them - such as setting themselves on fire, burying themselves, jumping off things etc... none lived to tell the tale - other than the few that did things that were not a definitely fatal outcome - such as lion taming...
Cut and paste from Goodlife's cut and paste... 'one thing is apparent God’s love is unfailing'.. Evidence please GL. otherwise give it a rest.
gods love is unfailing?

...well except when you don't praise and obey daily and live in fear of him...or swear, or lie, or have sex before marriage, or be decadent etc, or basically don't do exactly what he tells you to, then his love fails quite badly...then he strikes you down... or drowns you in a flood or banishes you to hell...forever...

hang on...isn't that kind of what tyrants do?
Nooo Seadogg, please please never look at another tin of Lyons Golden Syrup again - think of Lie-in-King's sensibilities.

S'ok L-i-K, no actual Lions were hurt in making of this link.

Although 'eyeless in Gaza, bound at the mill with slaves' is a heart stopper.
// God’s love is unfailing, any separation from it will be our fault, not his. //

That's like me. I love some people unfailingly, but the ones I don't, it's their fault not mine.
Curses! humbersloop, I was hoping the misquote wouldn't be noticed. That stuff was marvellous on porridge btw.
joko he tells you those things because he knows immorality can harm you.
You only have to look at the unwanted pregnancies to see that. And what's
so clever about having lots of different sexual partners. There are all kinds of
sexually transmitted diseases.
Also you don't have to live in fear, perfect love casts out fear and God's love
is perfect.
He is the perfect heavenly father. When you were a child your parents
probably set you ground rules, not because they wanted to spoil your fun, but
because they cared for you and new what was good for you. Your heavenly
father sets rules because he knows there are things in life that will hurt us.
Cupid, that is nothing but sentimental, sanctimonious, claptrap. Your God's love is far from perfect because nothing is going to hurt us more than his wrath if we don't worship him. Love is given freely, not on demand, and no truly caring parent would cast his child into eternal damnation for any reason. However, no matter how genuinely altruistic or morally upright a person is, that's what your God threatens if his narcissistic ego isn't consistently massaged by a trembling sycophant. Where is the love in that? I can't see it, so perhaps you will explain it to me, because in my opinion comparing your God's love to that of a good parent is an insult to good parents everywhere.

Genuine love is not something that can be traded - it can't be used as a bargaining tool - and religion does not provide the ultimate recipe for morality - and if you knew your bible and took responsibility for yourself instead of willingly believing people who surreptitiously massage YOUR ego by telling you that you're somehow more special than the rest you would understand that.

The hypocrisy of this continual proselytising and moralising often coming from people who clearly have no scruples whatsoever when it comes to ridiculing or disparaging others is, frankly, quite sickening.
@cupid04 - “... There are all kinds of sexually transmitted diseases...”.

Which your God has created. Why would God create STD's? They are indiscriminate. If a husband has an affair, contracts and then subsequently gives his wife an STD such as HIV, how is that fair on the innocent wife? Obviously, it isn't fair. So why did God deliberately create STDs? No all knowing, all loving God would have done such a thing as He would have been aware that the potential to cruelly infect innocent people with potentially life threatening diseases would be ever present.

“.... you don't have to live in fear, perfect love casts out fear and God's love is perfect...”

No it isn't. It's demanded with menaces. Rather like the archetypal mobsters who visit legitimate businesses and say, “Nice place. It'd be a shame if it burnt to the ground...”. Your God does the same, although He would say, “Nice soul. It'd be a shame if it got burnt...”.

As Naomi has succinctly put it, your post is sentimental, sanctimonious, claptrap.
Would you honestly trust your faith and go into a lion's cage sandy? Time to fess up!
