Punidhed!

I would really like some opinions on this please.

My seven -half year old daughter came home today saying that she was punished in her R.E class because when they played some Indian (Pakistan) music it made her giggle.

She just thought it was strange sounding music, but the teacher sat her down and told her to write a letter of apology to the Muslims in the class.

I am absolutely livid to say the least and really would appreciate some feedback on what I should do.

thanks in advance

I think that is outrageous!
If it happened to my child I'd be on the phone pronto to make an appointment to see the teacher in question AND the headteacher, and tell them a few home truths.
She's a little girl for goodness sake, not some rabid islamophobe.
If you don't get an apology from the teacher, I'd take it to the board of governors and I'd be hinting that the media may be interested in this story.

Thank you for your answer so promptly.

I wish I had of rang the school straight away but I wanted to get someone elses opinion. You have now prompted me to ring first thing in the morning to see the headteacher and the class teacher.

Thank you for your answer Whiffey.

I wonder if the media would be interested. Maybe I can contact them and find out.

I'm getting more and more angry the more I think about it.

thats outrageous lol

If it had been the Highland Fling she might also have giggled (I would and Im scottish) but I bet she wouldnt have been asked to apologise to any scottish kids !

its getting beyond a joke, it really is, how can a 7˝yr old have meant it any other way than a giggle

your absolutely right Weeal.

An innocent giggle for no other reason but the fact the music sounded funny.
Unfortunately this will not be the first time I have clashed with my little girls teacher over her "over reaction" to things.

icemaiden, you have to keep going at the problem. The people complaining are complaining 'on behalf of' people they purport to represent but do not. A load of pathetic and dangerous Jobsworths spouting out political correctness.

Keep at it, mate, and good luck. We need a change of government.

i have heard some daft things in my time but to tell a seven year old to write a letter of apology, if this story was printed in the sun newspaper people would say you have made it up. i would have a word with the head teacher ,best of luck

Potter Minor...I will keep this up, believe me.

In fact, by taking the action that she did, the teacher has highlighted to the class that Muslims should be treated differently.

And there was me thinking that we should all be treated the same.

Thats a joke!

It seems to be people like your daughter's teacher who cause more trouble by their odd ability to think for other groups like Muslims for example. Muslims themselves do not object to our celebration of, for example, Christmas yet the "politically correct mafia" think they are one step ahead and ban Nativity plays etc when in fact no offence was perceived by any other ethnic group. Anyway a sense of humour breaks a lot of ice and who can suspect a child of that age to be racist when it is not a concept of which they are aware.

I would check with the school to make sure that is EXACTLY what happened and take it from there.

Octavius...I am all ears to know what went on and I will of course give the Teacher a chance to speak.

However, I know my Daughter would have only innocently giggled as htis is her nature. she has never been in trouble at school and does extremely well in class.
In fact the same teacher couldn't praise her enough at the last Parents Evening not so long ago.

That's ridiculous icemaiden, I'm getting quite indignant on your behalf. Weeal made a good point, I wonder what the teacher's reaction would have been if one of the kids had giggled or yawned during a playing of the National Anthem, not that there is much chance of that being played in schools these days. I think I would phone the Head first thing in the morning and even make an appointment with the Head and the teacher involved just to clarify the situation and if I didn't get an apology from them, I would certainly contact the media. Good luck and look forward to seeing you on the front page of the Daily Mail later this week. Let us know what happens.

Go in tomorrow - speak to the head and make sure the teacher sits down and writes a letter of apology to your daughter!!!!!!!

I am livid and I am not even involved. Indian music can make you smile and laugh and I am sure if you ask them they would be glad it had that effect on people.

You must take this further - stupid, stupid, bl..dy teacher!

As I said, establish the facts first.

Once you have done so, perhaps you would like to provide the name of the school and so that i may take the issue to my contacts at the QCA and maybe the LEA.

If this is true it is unacceptable. But it needs to be exactly as you have said to have any substance for complaint

Thank you Octavius... I am organising a meeting with the teacher and head teacher and will let you know what transpires.

Can I ask...~What does QCA stand for? and what do they do?
