//You are quoting politicians. I have been around long enough to know not to take too much notice of them.//

Quite so, youngmaf. As I have said constantly throughout this saga, anybody who based their referendum vote on what politicians told them would happen was foolish in the extreme. It is the greatest folly to believe anything a politician tells you. Some people learn this at a young age, others never fully grasp it and that seems quite evident here. To continually say "David Davis said this", "Boris Johnson said that", "Uncle Tom Cobley said the other", as if they were some sort of gospels handed down from on high, simply demonstrates a lack of the ability to learn.

It is now beginning to become clear, most Brexiteers (having realised what an absolute disaster Brexit is for the UK) are claiming that they didn’t get the Brexit they voted for (the sunny uplands, no downsides only considerable upsides, cheaper food & clothing, a highly paid, skilled economy).

If you voted for Brexit believing that as a result we would get the sunny uplands, no downsides only considerable upsides, cheaper food & clothing, a highly paid, skilled economy – you really are an idiot.

Absolutely agree. But most people who I know who voted to leave didn't vote with that belief. I certainly didn't for the reasons I pointed out in my post at 16:18.

//...most Brexiteers (having realised what an absolute disaster Brexit is for the UK) are claiming that they didn’t get the Brexit they voted for//

I didn't get the Brexit I voted for and in all honesty I never thought I would. But, as I keep repeating, we are no longer members of the EU and so long as that is the case, whatever sort of Brexit we got (provided it meant leaving the EU, the Customs Union and the Single Market) was quite OK by me.
The question hanging in the air then is, who are we to listen to and believe on matters of national importance?

Asking for a friend. X

So you have now lost the argument.
If the argument's over then we might get an answer to my question. :-)

The only time you should believe politicians, duggie, is if they tell you about something that has happened and you can check the details independently. Even then you should beware because they will tell you either it happened because of something they did (if what occurred was favourable) or it was somebody else's fault (if it was not).

Politicians' musings are to be treated like those of a fortune teller - don't take them too seriously and don't pay any money for them.
Okay, but who?
Anybody but politicians, duggie. Use your own judgement when making decisions and gather information from various sources. The very last people you should listen to - and certainly believe - where matters of national importance are concerned are politicians. All they are interested in is the next occasion they want you to put a cross on a voting paper.

Recent history is littered with politicians' lies and broken promises. They are their stock-in-trade. The run up to the referendum, and the shenanigans which followed, were not exceptional, they were business as usual. Nobody should cast their vote based on what politicians tell them.

//Very worth a watch:-//

Not on your life! I'd rather stick pins into my eyes than listen to - let alone watch - James O'Brien. I have occasionally heard his ramblings when tuning in to LBC thinking Nick Ferrari was still on. He's been prattling on about the referendum result for seven years, labelling anybody who voted to leave as a thick, xenophobic racist who probably needed help marking their paper with a cross. A more arrogant, demeaning, self-opinionated sod never walked God's Earth. He's the sort of bloke who, if you invited him to a dinner party (anywhere other than Islington), he would clear the house before the aperitifs were served and save the host a fortune in victuals.
