I think I have solved it. All the deers that come to visit are youngish. They have obviously reached the age of the rut. The one who came today was in a bit of a state. Lots of bits hanginging of, shrubbery attached where he had been rubbing to get rid of velvety covering and blooded. All our visitors seem to be the same age. Not the large stags with the magnificent antlers just younger ones. That's why in the years they have been visiting I've not seen this before.

They do look morbid, poor things. Youre so lucky to have them visit.

I know I am so lucky. I just couldn't understand how I had not seen this before. When the second one came today I thought that must be the reason. They are all youngish deers so must be coming of age!
We used to get muntjax but its getting too built up now. They had ugly scent holes on their faces.
