Me and a mate are thinking of going on holiday for a week or so but cant think where to go. We are both married and muslim so don't want any partying resorts or anywhere renowned for being 'pick up' places. We aren't bothered about beaches and arent too bothered about the weather though i dont mean the north pole, so long as its anywhere between nice and scorching we arent fussy. We would like somewhere nice with things to see, places to visit etc. We would prefer somewhere that has a good muslim population as that would be more relaxing for both of us. Iraq and Iran are out as I've plans in the pipeline to visit them in the near future and would rather have my first visit there with my husband.

I've put this here rather than in travel cos from what im told hardly anyone looks in there lol

salams sith... saw you there but didnt wanna give ya a wave while i was answering such silly comments.

thanks joko... long time no chat, hope you are okay

hi cream soda... i gave reasons in previous posts and thanks :)

its stupid that im getting comments about why to be honest, if i wasnt muslim and just said i didnt drink and like hectic nightlife i doubt anyone would have batted an eyelid.

big waves naomi :) sadly i know people that have been holidaying in europe and had crap thrown at them and its ruined their holiday.... i just think theres less likely to be crap if its a muslim country we go to.....

thanks again boxy... thanks for pointing out culture not faith... seems most people dont know the difference....and totally agree with your last comment :)

no i mean reverted naomi

enjoy yourself SJ, i agree with your comment on muslim countries, i have a couple of friends on fb that are in indonesia... we chat a fair bit and at the minute one is asking my advice on wearing hijab as she doesnt wear it...oh the horror lol x

hi barney and thanks so much for that :) my dad was over there way back when and he still raves about how much he loves it 50 years later... obviously i know it will have changed huge amounts since then but coming from a fella who thinks even pizza is 'foreign muck' the fact that he loved it speaks volumes :)

its ace being totally covered boxy... you can go to the shops with your jamas on and no one knows ;) though i dont always wear abaya i love it,usually its just normal but non revealing clothes i wear :)
Hi Pixi, I didn't realise it was you. When you mentioned fosters heads I mistakenly took your comment to mean that they gave you trouble because you were obviously muslim. My remarks about unescorted muslim women do have some truth in them although an extreme example, but other muslim countries have their own extremes. I do understand your point about rowdy resorts, I stay well clear of them myself. There are civilised holiday destinations, nothing to to with being muslim just a cultural thing, good behaviour is not the prerogative of muslim, or christians for that matter. I hope you find the right resort and have an enjoyabl holiday.
hi, Pixi - what others have said, really, anywhere in the Middle East - I think Syria's probably a bit too lively at the moment (shame, because there are wonderful things to see there, Islamic and otherwise). But Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt are all good, and have great Muslim sites and sights as well as much older ones (Roman ruins, pyramids and so on), plus I think in Tunisia you can stay in the sort of troglodyte hotels where they filmed Star Wars

And anywhere in Turkey is great and the people are friendly. I love Istanbul.

jom i didnt mean by anything i said that good behaviour was a perogative of anyone but we have both had stick ( and i know of a lot of other muslim women who have too) from a whole range of people, fosters heads or not, in the street, on the bus, in shops etc.... we just think that would be a lot less likely to happen in a majority muslim place so would make for a more relaxing holiday...

hi jno and thanks for that.... we were thinking at one point of nipping into syria, whether we will or not im not sure
pixi, the FCO is still saying "leave Syria now"

so I'd keep an eye on that. Terrorists aren't always too fussy about who they hit, Muslim or not. They're also doubtful about Lebanon, especially the Bekaa valley, though Beirut sounds fine.

If all else fails there's always Timbuktu.
Question Author
it was just going to be a drive through but think a direct flight would be loads more sensible now... lol at timbuktu .. and you know that bit about terrorists isnt public knowledge, trust you to let the cat out the bag ;)
Question Author
well not a direct flight cos most of em have a change but ya know what i mean
now you just be ready for anything, Pixi...

lol... im sure i know the woman at the right end of the row
Question Author
i dont know if anyone will see this but if not i will make a fresh post in travel.

We have sort of decided on turkey. I was chatting to family over in the middle east about the holiday and when i said maybe turkey they said if decided there it would be a great opportunity to come meet me before i go over there for a proper visit. I dont know anywhere in turkey except popular resorts i have heard of and istanbul .... if they come they may drive so somewhere that isnt a zillion miles from the border with iraq/iran but also somewhere that isnt too back of beyond. I know there's problems near the border at the minute so somewhere not too close but not too far if anyone has any suggestions.
Sounds like a good decision, pixi. I'd go to Istanbul - seeing Hagia Sofia and the Bosphorus has long been on my wish-list.
Question Author
aww if i knew you for real i would smuggle you in my suitcase ;) x
You could always stay in this country and have a couple of weeks in Leicester. Seriously.
Aw pix - that would put you waaaaay into excess baggage...! but it's a nice thought!
what, somewhere like here, le chat? http://www.islamic-fo...arfieldInstitute.aspx
Question Author
lol boxy, bless ya..... in that case i'd get in it, so long as i had a flask and sami yusuf i'd be okay ;)
Pixi, you have way more patience than me. Have a fab holiday!
Question Author
what for sitting in a suitcase you mean evian? and thanks :)
