glasgow street name

Does anybody know why Renfield st in the city centre changes halfway down to Union st

Hi, info from the Glasgow Guide. Renfield Street was built and was named by Campbell of Blythswood after his Renfrew estate. he had a residential property on Renfield St. but I'm not sure when. Union St changed it's name from Union Place in 1802 when Gordon St opened. In short they are two different streets. Hope this helps
