Why do old people never hold their line when walking down the street? You try and overtake but then you are forced to sidestep at high speed thus causing a 'path-bottleneck'? It wouldn't be allowed on a motorway!

I'll guess because their tired old limbs don't go where they'd like them to go, plus they're not in a hurry so it doesn't matter if they wander.

You'll be old yourself one day. Don't be impatient with them.
Well, you know, Muffrats, the pavement is NOT a motorway; and is a few seconds spent sidestepping older pedestrians, or in a bottleneck, really so vital? Try and develop a little patience and tolerance, or you'll be an out-and-out Meldrew by the time you're 35.
Well, if you've ever tried to actually walk at a comfortable pace down Oxford Street, you know that young people can be just as directionless, cripplingly slow and infuriating.
Sorry, but far far worse are the groups of disaffected young teenagers who spread themselves out all over the pavement and will not budge when they see you coming in the other direction, thereby ensuring that you have to execute a hasty, last-minute leap into the road to avoid being trampled by them.
