well of course they shouldnt of sold it in the first place !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
should even need to ask to be honest
I can only hope that this issue has been blown up out of all proportion and is now being misreported...............

If the facts 'are' as they appear to be, then Amazon should be ashamed to be promoting this book.

zzxxee, i know they shouldnt have !

jth, the book was on sale up yesterday. I know countless people who complained, called bbc, called reporter friends and reported it to the Internet Watch Foundation too.

(this comes from friends of a friend of a friend) Amazons reply to the emails they received said
"As a retailer, our goal is to provide customers with the broadest selection possible so they can find, discover, and buy any item t...hey might be seeking. That selection includes some items w...hich many people may find objectionable. Therefore, the items offered on our website represent a wide spectrum of opinions on a variety of topics.

Let me assure you that Amazon.com does not support or promote hatred or criminal acts; we do support the right of every individual to make their own purchasing decisions.

Amazon.com believes it is censorship not to sell certain titles because we believe their message is objectionable. Therefore, we'll continue to make controversial works available in the United States and everywhere else, except where they're prohibited by law. We also allow readers, authors, and publishers to express their views freely about these titles and other products we offer on our website. However, Amazon.com doesn't endorse opinions expressed by individual authors, musical artists, or filmmakers.

We value all feedback from our customers, and I thank you again for taking the time to send us your comments about this issue. Although we won't be able to comment further on this topic, we hope you'll allow us to continue to serve you."

and the Author wrote on the amazon site
"This is my attempt to make pedophile situations safer for those juveniles that find themselves involved in them, by establishing certian rules for these adults to follow. I hope to achieve this by appealing to the better nature of pedosexuals, with hope that their doing so will result in less hatred"

It would appear that they do not check what books are put up for sale. I don't believe for a minute that they would have allowed it had they known sooner.
Don't boycott Amazon because they sell dodgy books.

Boycott Amazon because they are driving High Street bookshops out of business !!
Hmmmm.............a bit slippery, that.

Amazons definition (as a supposedly responsible retailer) of censorship and mine are at variance, here. Refusing to sell an objectionable book is NOT censorship.

They have made a serious error..........I'd certainly be looking closely at whoever made this decision !!
I'd be seriously looking at who tried to sell the book....
Question Author
ummmm, how can they not check? someone somewhere must install the details into their server. The synopsis and the title, the cover page.

i had an order to place with them for Christmas gifts, they wont be getting it now.
I should tell them that, redcrx.

It might concentrate their minds a little !
This is probably to do with lulu, a self publishing service run by Amazon.

I doubt Amazon look at every piece of nonsense they're asked to publish on print on demand.

All the best,

They can't possibly have time to check everything.

I would hope they would track the individual though...
i agree jack the hat notify amazon (i expect they have had thousands of complaints) the more the better !!
Amazon have so many titles, they couldn't possibly vet them all.

But ... when a dodgy one comes to light, do they remove it? ... Yes, they do.

But I still only buy from Amazon if the bookshops can't get it ... like it's out of print, or something.

With Waterstones JJ - they're hardly helping.

The "long tail" in high street bookshops is pretty dead I think. At least Amazon can get you the books you want, whereas Waterstones... well... not much good for anything I find.

Also, the massive mismanagement of Boarders is partly to blame for our current high-street situation.

All the best,

I won't stop buying from Amazon in the UK (mostly because it's the only place where I can get some books) but I certainly think that their US/Canadian arm - as per link - has made a serious error of judgement. The rights of everyone to publish don't mean that the content of what some people want to write SHOULD be published.
no, will not be boycotting them. I have not had a chance to read the book, so how am i to know if what it contains is offensive?
