Someone expects a free night out, maybe?

It's interesting if you Google 'man paying on first date', the consensus is that men should pay on the first date, and for lots of different reasons and scenarios. I was surprised...though that was the accepted norm a zillion years ago, the 1960s...when I first was dating. Later when I met both my first and second husbands...dating as such was a bit passe. We just 'went out'.

The majority of the sites that came up were American...is that the explanation for the kind of results or is it just Google?

I am sure abbey is not doing this but you could have several dates a week and never pay!

personally I wouldn't as it's not fair on the chap

I'd say a guy paying on first date is acceptable...if he asked. Any further dates with the same person should be divided. Maybe that's why abbey decides second dates aren't worth it 😉

lol maybe

I did offer to pay om 2nd other day but he insisted

Of course I would pay at time if I was in a relationship

You should always offer, otherwise a guy might feel you just want a free night out. And, if you can't afford it...say so!

You should always offer to go Dutch it's called good manners

I will offer to pay

Good, the days of men paying for the company of a pretty, attentive, amusing young lady are long gone, I hope.

In the fifties eating out in restaurants was fairly rare but if it did then the man  usually paid. I think the term'going dutch' started in the 60s when more women started going out to work and earning .

Single women usually worked, even before WWII, although the wages were much lower than men's, even for the same job and hours.

Four threads are all running this evening. I'm off.
