Metal Detector

Hi, My husband is desperate for a metal detector(mid life crisis!!)
I want to buy him one as a surprise for his BIG birthday this year & wondered if anyone on here knows anything about them & can give me any advice? I am looking at Garrett 400i as they come out one of the best in the reviews? I am looking at spending about 200-300 pounds.

I know we all have our different ways of doing things but, if it were me you were buying it for, I'd rather you let me choose my own so that I could spend hours looking for the "right"one and decide which gimmicks I thought were important.

according to Amazon, they don't have to cost that much, try there first.

I'd let him buy his own, or alternatively buy one so he has a present with the proviso with retailer that you can return for an exchange.

Print out specs of different ones and put them in an envelope so he can chose along with a fake cheque for the amount you will spend
