Sorry if I’ve asked this before but I find it hard to comprehend the use of the word hate, I may ‘dislike’ but hate is such a powerful word, I can’t name the poster for obvious reasons ,but his hatred of someone he’s not likely to meet ever in his lifetime is so deep seated , it’s crazy

I have have hated two people with very good reason. One is now dead and the other is at large again. And I hate bananas!

On a similar tack, luminaries like Taylor Swift using 'haters' when they mean 'they don't agree with my view' really rip my knittin.
Question Author
Exactly Douglas
// love rips my knitting’ /// lol
I don't really know who Taylor Swift is so her opinions on anything don't matter to me and I couldn't care less about her.

Hatred is a wasted emotion, eats you up and makes you bitter.
(The generic 'you', not anyone specific)
Question Author
It’s horrible Alba...to even be so bitter
I agree, Bobbi. Hate is such a crass word
Question Author
ZM, I may dislike even you but I am not a hater, and can’t understand the deep set emotion of the word
Taylor Swift, strolling minstrel, m'lud. :-)

I only hate one person, and with reason. It's not a wasted emotion, it's a caused emotion. I don't think about him so he doesn't consume my thoughts.

People posting on AB...there is no-one I hate.
Question Author
^^^ I find it hard to hate anyone , on here or in the real world
Depends on the reasons.
Question Author
I suppose it does , never the less I’m pleased I’m not eaten up by it
It's not the only word that's taken on an increased severity no-one is 'upset' or 'fed-up' they have 'anxiety' needing tablets, the word trauma really isn't applicable to being 'very upset' or 'seriously ***-off', it has a far deeper meaning and it's over-use devalues it.
Yes I do. I'd find it odd to say that I just disliked the man who sexually abused me when I was a very young child. I hated and detested him when he was alive and I still do.
It really hasn't eaten me up, Alba and I'm far from a bitter person....but I think hating him and hating what he did to me and made me do as a seven/eight year old is fine.... :-)
Question Author
Now that’s so different Gness, horrible in fact
There are some people I dislike passionately but seldom think about them.

I can understand ummm and gness hating.

I should have said that hating someone who you'll probably never meet is a wasted emotion.
Question Author
I’d hate vehemently anyone who’d abused me
do I hate? Yes I am capable of it. I hate cruelty, thoughtlessness, meanness greed and the people who manifest those things
Generally it's a throwaway word not to be taken literally and I can't see how you can hate anyone you've never met anyway. I do hate one person for real, my ex-husband.
Question Author
I believe it’s the severity of the reason and I see both yours and Gness’s Prudie
To hate has no bearing on the hated, but the one doing the hating suffers with inner turmoil.
Better to forgive seventy times seven and let it go.
It's better for you.
