I bought some perfume online for my wife ('Ma Griffe' by Carvan) and it appears to be bogus. The box and container look good but it smells very common and doesn't last. Has anyone else had this experience with perfume and do you know of a reliable source for future purchases?

My daughter bought some Chanel 5 for me online, and although the box and bottle looked completely normal, the perfume had a slightly different smell, and the fragrance disappeared very quickly. i am convinced that it was dodgy.

chanel; It's easy to see that there are enormous profits to be made by counterfeiting perfume and the chances of being found out are very slim. How would you go about it? If your challenge was denied, you'd have to find an 'expert witness', and scientific proof would be hard to ascertain I imagine, expensive as perfume is, it's probably cheaper to put it down to experience and move on (with care).
I've got Hermes on today people always comment on it - I do like an Iris one by Prada though - its in a pale green box
I have bought Hermes on ebay but only from UK sites and not that much cheaper to be honest
My two signatures are Un Jardin Apres Le Mousson by Hermes and Mimosa Pour Moi by L'Artisan Parfumeur. I love Joy and Sublime but they are a bit heavy for daily use, also Tresor.

I used to buy the original Egoiste for my late DH because I loved it on him and the name suited him well!
