Are people always overly polite with my looks?

Let me start by stating that I DO NOT hate myself, but growing up my mother occasionally said I was ugly, and the rest of my house was filled with older, narcissistic men. Personally I feel that I'm average, and the only reason I always got the girls was because of my personality (which again isn't award-winning).

I constantly get women telling me I'm good looking. They range from 18 to 55yrs old and vary in ethnicity. These are strangers and new acquaintances.

My question is this:
Is it just polite to compliment a persons look in public, or do I have something?

PS: I have a keen eye for looks (for my job) and I'm not impressed by the mirror.

PPS: I'm happily married and generally a secure person. This is not a vain attempt at getting rated. I simply want to know if this is "one of those things" people do that I seem to have missed.

I think you are fortunate that you are constantly told by women of all ages that you are good looking.

1) I personally dont comment on someone's looks
Strangers come up to you, out of the blue, to tell you you're good looking????
Post a picture of your fizzog, otherwise this is a bit pointless.
If you posted a picture I'm sure most ABers would tell you that you were good looking, out of politeness.
why even mention it though? If I went to play golf and I told my opponent how attractive he was out of politenes I think he would be weirded out

essentially, do people need to be told they are attractive as part of a friendly conversation?
You will have to post a picture of yourself, otherwise we will all be wondering forevermore!
I often tell young men they are good looking in a jokey way,but I am 72, I would never have done that in my younger days.
Meeting someone for the first time, I tend to keep my thoughts on their looks to myself.
no 56+ years old tell you this then?
Come to think of it what situation does this occur in? speed dating?
1. Not impolite........just a little strange.
2. Yes......do you have something?
I don't really notice how people look. They are either nice or not nice.
// but growing up my mother occasionally said I was ugly, //

She sounds nice.
I suspect people pick up on your anxiety and are concerned enough to assure you constantly. Try not to let it be such an issue for you.
Try taking the paper bag off your head.
This one is summed up by the following pic:

Nothing against you,personally..but I was not a little bit concerned.

..this seeming"obsession" - and in the post next but one,you seemed"chuffed to bits"..with your "Oeuvre"..re.."Enjoying one"s own anal emissions"..I thought, what a curious phrase to use.

I think we should be told!..no offence meant, btw

Pure coincidence, Z, nothing more. And no German in me and I don't see the relevance of that.
