my son has the most gorgeous suit for his prom, and he has shirt, tie, belt and boots. His date is wearing purple and i wondered if he should have something purple too. I don't really want to go for a purple tie as they don't want to look like contestants in a dance competition!

I wondered if it was old fashioned to have a purple hanky in his top pocket - or is that ok? I had also thought of a tie pin with a purple stone, but he doesn't really like bling!

My other dilemma, is that his trousers are a bit too long and, although ok with shoes, he's chosen ankle boots and so they 'sit' on top of the boot. Do i get them shortened straight across or on an angle (I think it's called a guardsman cut).

Sorry for the lengthy question!

shouldn't he be telling you what he wants?

PS - I'd say the hanky is a no-no, and the trousers sound fine as they are ;o)
I must be tired.....I thought it said porn suit :-(

well i can't really ask him as he has never dressed in a suit before and also it was to be bit of a surprise.
The trousers sit on top of the top of the boot, not the top of the foot - if you know what i mean. they sort of tuck in at the very top. Would shortening them stop this?

craft - definitely time for bed!!
Hi Cris, leave his trousers they look better a bit longer than short, a purple hanky will look good and match lovely, also try to get his date a cirsage from the flower shop, they look beautiful on the wrist and you can choose the colour, should be bout £8/10, i hope his has a fantastic time xxx
You need to ask him crisgal - a cummerbund or buttonhole might not look good with the suit,if depends on its cut and style - he doesn't want to feel as if he's been dressed by someone else! I can't see why you think the tie is not a good idea, it's the obvious one to me, particularly if he doesn't wear a suit very often.
Re the shortening - if you don't get it exactly right (and I speak from experience) then the shortened trouser looks worse than legs a bit too long.
PS - he might have to wear shoes after all, of course, to solve the problem!

hi all.
The suit is a mod, 60's kind of style and the boots are super cool winklepickers!
his trousers are being shortened by a very experienced -and expensive! tailor.
he doesn't fancy a cummerbund or hanky, so will have a purple tie.
i would love to get his date a corsage, but she is a goth!!!
She doesn't want any flowers, so we've bought her her jewellery instead.
he adores the boots and wouldn't change his mind.

He's six feet three tall, with long blonde curly hair (like robert plant's used to be). He'll look a proper bobby dazzler! (i'm not too sure about his date though!)
