Jingle Bells

In the song Jingle Bells it says "oh what fun it is to ride on a one horse open sleigh".
Is this in refference to anyone in particular or is it just saying that it's ...fun?

I guess that'd be the most basic winter conveyance - only one horse, not even fancy enough to have a roof, but probably pleasant enough in light snow

Trust me , riding in a sleigh is not much fun. There are no springs in a sleigh, so every bump is felt . Also, horses fart a lot.
