apparently if you go 3 times a week you shoud see a differene in 3 weeks. sometimes if you are doing weights, you gain a little bit or you wont lose much at first because your building muscle and muscle weighs more than fat, but your measurements will be less.
I believe the sensible recommended weight loss is about 2 lbs a week. However, if you've just joined a gym (as I also have to tone up) I was reminded that intially as muscle builds up it weighs more than fat so even if we're dieting the scales might not immediately show any encouraging loss. My guess is that it probably needs a month before the difference really shows. And my second guess is that after a month, if the two of us compare results you will have done better than me because my willpower is pretty low when it comes to food and exercise !

When I was at the university, my coach said not to judge by weight alone. He said when you start working out, you will lose weight at first, but then start to regain it as you build muscles.

He said you should weigh, each day at the same time, and know that your weight will go up and down within a range. You have to learn your normal range, which is usually about four pounds. When that normal range shifts a few pounds, then you can be sure your weight has changed.

He said that in addition to weight, you should consider the way your clothes fit. If they are loose in the waist but you weigh the same, then you have converted some fat to muscle.

You will know you are fit and toned when you feel better and your musles are firm and not jiggly!

Good luck!
