What is the policy of the other train companies regarding this issue? If they are all the same, why is only one company on strike?

Southern operates a different system to all the other rail companies. It is funded directly by the Government rather than being a franchise like the others.

Thank you Eddie. I didn't know that. I do think the company is being extremely selfish, punishing innocent people like this.

No, it is as usual the Brothers (Union Members) who are being selfish and punishing innocent people, not the Company.
I'm not sticking up for any union here Balders but do you not think the drivers have a point regards the "Closing of doors & they do not want to be responsible?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_(Govia_Thameslink_Railway)#Future_of_the_franchise

Future of the franchise
In January 2016 Transport for London announced that it intends to take over the London suburban parts of the franchise in 2021 through a partnership with the Department for Transport to form a new suburban metro service.
Baldric - That is something of a sweeping statement.

The RMT Secretary was on Radio Four last night advising that he had offered to meet with the Government representatives at ACAS if the Government rescinded its legal action to get the strike outlawed.

The government refused, the court recognised the strike as legal, and it has gone ahead.

There are two sides to every story.

TWR. from what we are told it's seems to work ok for other Rail Companies.
Different Issue I see.

AH, I know who I blame.

What different issue do you see?
I'm not going there.lol
Baldric - You can blame whom you like, but it does help of you are not blaming only one side when two sides are involved.
for Gawd's sake ...the public were never allowed to shut a door !!..shut the bleedin' doors train staff..!! what hardship !!
There's strike going on about the Drivers not taking responsibility for closing the doors, I though that was the issue.

If you were referring to the post @ 11:23, it was quite clear and checkable, I can only assume you 'misread' it.

And that is exactly what I referred to. On other Rail Companies Drivers DO operate the doors without any problems.
more than likely.
Train doors? Safety? hah, all that's just a smokescreen and it's about time both sides came clean about their agendas. as Eddie said, the government pays southern to run the trains, and keeps the fare revenue as recompense. the DfT want to cut the cost to them of running the service so are looking to cut away at "some of the fat" as double-manning is seen. the RMT see removal of guards as but a step toward wholesale automation and won't countenance it as it would be the thin end of the wedge. ASLEF's action is 100% political and aimed squarely at the government in the face of a resurgent labour party who are intent on renationalisation. Southern management cannot back down because they'd need the consent of the government, and that won't be forthcoming.
As I said on AB more than once, driverless trains are the answer and it will happen! Only the Unions preventing it.
