Thanks mark, I've heard of dark matter before but didn't really know what it was. It seems to be a theory at the moment. I wonder is it tangible? Meant to put this link too, which made me think about the initial Q.

It's theoretical, certainly, sort of like neutrinos i.e. created to make thy physics work...

That's a nice little page for my little boy to look at who loves space, thanks.
I think it's incredible that to find the largest thing in space we are having to use the LHC to find the smallest things (possibly) known to man. |

johne, he'll love this http://xplorations.bl...size-does-matter.html
Mark, that is sort of mad. Perhaps the formulae they are using are wrong. |

No idea...

Come on Mark, what are you doing?
Read that whole Wiki entry and summarise in no more than 50 words. :o) I love the idea Flob that hundreds of scientists are working on a huge galactic calculation based on 100's of years of findings and we pop up and say "Erm....I think your formula is wrong" |

Thank you for the link flobadob I am fascinated with space and galaxies.

Well johne, it wouldn't be the first time science was wrong. It even seems to say in the wiki link of mark's that they made the theory of dark matter so that their formulae would work. Nice work if you can get it.

I think it's great. I have always dreamed about looking at a huge calculation or something simple like e=mc2 and going "well actually if you change this to this then it will work better" and suddenly producing a whole new way of calculating things.

Indeed, hence my comment "to make the physics work"... |

Question Author
johne, you should make a start on disproving dark matter. Just take out the made up stuff and see what you come up with. Or hows about making up something else to fit the math.

I'll get onto it straight away....

Good stuff, nothing like a new theory to get the mind pumping. Did you check out that second link I posted?

Yes, it was great thanks. That's the same one they use at the planetarium @ The Life Centre in Newcastle. Looks great when it's pitch black and them zooming around.
(Still difficult to comprehend the size & distance of things) |
