I just bought some 500ml bottles of plain water for my grandkids to take on their school trip.
They were £1 each, yet good quality real ale is 90p for 500ml in the supermarket!
As beer is made from water why the rip off?

You've bought posh water, have to say I'never bought bottled water.

Prices are often based not on intrinsic value but on what the market will stand. The water is priced that way because that is what people are prepared to pay and, with the water, you may well have thought it reasonable value for money. A lot of water costs a lot more. Beer is not a valid comparsion for a number of reasons - and the price contains tax which the water does not.
...because daft people are prepared to pay it. If you really need bottled water, 2 litres available for 35 pence.....
19p for 500ml in a lidl supermarket
If it's like our supermarket, a lot of bottled beers have been/are on special offer for Father's Day
Give 'em a beer each. They'll enjoy the trip even more.
I was of the same mind, OG.

Our nearest Lidl is over 17 miles away . I had to use our corner shop.
I agree though I would never willingly buy bottled water . Buy a water bottle and fill it up is what I'd do.
I once ran a Rugby club bar, a sales rep once tried to get me to stock bottled water by offering me a case of it as a free trial. He was most put out when I refused to even accept it as a free trial! I told him it would be a waste of shelf space.
I bet your kicking yourself over that decision eddie as bottle waters are top sellers11

They are now Islay but not in a 1980s Rugby club bar ! The players would have had a right old moan at my stock keeping !

^ Even Larger drinkers were regarded as a bit 'suspect' in those days , real men drink real beer!
When I first started drinking, lager was definitely a woman's drink.
These 'larger drinkers', what's that all about then?
They're the fat, pot-bellied ones who eat all the pies.
Beer bellies, douglas ;-)
Question Author
I always used to call lager 'larger' as those who drank it were tended to be of a 'rotund ' nature! It was a typo though sorry .
I'm currently buying my water from the co-op. 12 bottles for £2.
A 2 litre bottle of either still or sparkling water is only 17p in both Tesco and Aldi
I've never bought bottled water and I certainly don't intend to - what's wrong with good ol' fashioned tap water??
I think the question has already been answered - stores will charge what they think they can get way with and if people are daft enough to pay it, then more the fool them (no offence intended).
You should have saved some money and given them beer then.
