I meant barrier....blast my two typing fingers !
All the environmental groups are complaining. They want clean energy but don't want mudflats for wading birds fish spawning disrupted.
"A 45-minute video of the Hull tidal barrier"
England

Thanks Togo....it would have been helpful if the Beeb had said that in the first place !
It does.
I thought there were plans for one near Swansea.

A few years ago they'd planned for one nearer the English side of the Bristol Channel, but thankfully they've shelved that one. My house would have been demolished.
MIKEY, it says, "A 45-minute video of the Hull tidal barrier going down, sped up to 45 seconds."
Jo, this is just a tidal barrier, not a lagoon.

Thanks Corby....I must have missed that....not at my best early in the morning.
The Hull Tidal Barrier has nothing to do with generating electricity (which the plan for Swansea Bay does). It is simply a movable barrier designed to protect Hull from the River Hull when tides are high and the wind is unfavourable. There are many such installations along the Thames Estuary protecting the low lying land to the east of London where there are tributaries of the Thames.

The plan for Swansea Bay is effectively a tidal barrage which will use the movement of the tides to generate electricity. It is this that environmentalists are objecting to.
Bring on the tidal lagoons.

Far less environmentally damaging than nuclear or fossil fuel.

Hoppy....we are all hoping that the Swansea Barrage will go ahead, as it would provide much needed lecky, as well as much needed local jobs. The problem is....where is the money going to come from ?....nobody seems to know at the moment.
There you go Mikey....I am more reliable than the Beeb.. Haha (^_*)

In this instance you seem to be Togo !
I think it is the River Humber Judge. There are also plans for a tidal lagoon up here in Colwyn Bay.
Question Author
My best guess is that the Swansea Barrage will never be built.

I hope I am wrong but the cost is so huge, that nobody is willing to stick their heads up and back it.

This isn't the 1960's, with its white hot heat of technology.
Mikey, I hope they do put any tidal barrage near Swansea, and not over here. A lot of jobs would have been created, but many lost here, including mine! And my home!

There is no money for the plans to go ahead, though.

NJ, thanks for explaining the difference between the different structures planned at Hull and Swansea. I had assumed they were the same thing.
