seeing as neither of the other suggestions that my class came up with went down well, what about making sure prisons serve their full sentence and taking a life definately means life imprisonment, unless they are found innocent some how.

in theory, yes.. but the prisons are full to busting and, as you know, it costs a fortune and many re-offend anyway.

how about sticking them in the army for their sentence?
hang them !!!!!!!
even the shoplifters?
naw sara ^-were talking about peoplewho take others lives-- so we are
-come to think of it tho, you might have a point there
Why inflict them on the army? take away the telly in the cell and all the other comforts and mollycoddling they get. Make the sentence they get in court be the minimum time they serve if they behave. a prison serntence is a reward these days! If they are found guilty three times it should be an automatic life sentence, with no chance of parole. Make it tough. They will soon learn! If they don't like overcrowding, hard luck. If you can't do the time, don't do the crime!
I think the army regime, and being surrounded by people who won't put up with their disrespect, might just straighten them out.

No, sara. In a tight spot you want someone alongside you that you can trust with your life, because that is exactly what you are doing. You don't want to be worrying about wether some muppet who has been sent by the courts is watching your back.
<<even the shoplifters? >>

Well my local shopkeeper thinks that. He dosn't sound as though he's joking.
The P.C Brigade always have the last word on this kind of stuff... And they win every time.
