Why are neckties often pointed at the ends?

This question is baffling me I have searched everywhere to no avail. Does any one know please???

Does it really matter?
Most ties are cut on the bias - at an angle of 45 degrees - so that when the ends are cut along the line of the threads they form a point. any ties which are cut with the threads normally have straight ends.
