This third week of the reign of Baron Burgess has proved yet again that he does not want to give away many points and has been very difficult to pin down!

This week has followed the same pattern as I now reveal that the chosen Link Words of burgess were:

STIRRUP Cup
Final SOLUTION
Match MAKER
Day TRIPPER

Quite a mixture of hard and soft words chosen as links

Most of you will be aware that there have been problems with AB and I am compiling this Report having printed off the first 43 replies over 24 hours ago ~ so this may not be accurate, but here goes!

Not for the first time, the two-minute rule was not required as link words were discovered by isolated individuals rather than simultaneously by batches! Also not for the first time it was FoxLee, who spotted the rather romantic link of MATCH MAKER and drew first blood and the chase was on! Jules001 followed three minutes later with the same link ~ but alas too late to share the bonus points.

We had to wait until 09.20 and the 13th Entrant, when Grenmus rode in ready for the hunt claiming both STIRRUP CUP and FINAL SOLUTION! Not content with four points, a fifth point was claimed with MATCH MAKER to make Grenmus the Hot Shot of the week (and now front runner for May). It is somewhat unusual to have to wait so long for Hits #2 and #3. All the more credit to Grenmus!
***MANY CONGRATULATIONS TO GRENMUS***

MORE YET TO COME!

Things began to tick over quite nicely until 13.19 when kettledrum (as Entrant #39) broke a long sequence of personal ZERO scores to spot the fourth and final link as DAY TRIPPER! I reckon the shock to the AB circuitry caused meltdown and AB had to come off air for major repairs!

League Table (so far)

FIVE POINTS: Grenmus came from nowhere!
FOUR POINTS: Dinkypuzzled & gen2 still well placed
THREE POINTS: cliffyg, Jules001 & sarumite and cannot be ruled out
Ten others have built up a total of two points and can still pull it off next week!

As usual, next week will be the last week of the reign of terror wreaked by Baron Burgess, so theres everything to play for! What he will come up with next week is anybodys guess. I know it will be topical and well considered ~ full of cryptic clues and red herrings! To the winner will fall the honour of setting the link words throughout the month of June.

Until then, this is crofter signing off for another week.

Yet another tough week from burgess (aka Alan) who chose some excellent words! Weve now had FOUR superb setters, all of whom began petrified and ended up enthralled. The next setter will have an experience that he/she will never forget! It has just occurred to me that three out of our four setters have been Male!!!
Food for thought!

LONG LIVE THE SPIRIT OF THE MM LINKERS!! :o)
I definitely give up!!! Alan...you are too good for me!!!
Well done all who scored!....and Gremmus - hot shot of the week! by the way Alan, what DID you do to evsajo??
I think she took a wrong turn on the M5 and finished up in goal for Man Utd, so its her fault they lost
WOW !!!
I don't believe it.
Right on the wavelength there.with you burgess.
Ta crofter for doing the sums.

Graham
Alan!!...bet you blame your lovely MUCH MUCH younger sister for everything!!
Another good game as Brucie might say!

Well done Grenmus for such a scintillating performance, and thanks to burgess and crofter for all of their sterling efforts. :O)
Crofter - so you're blaming everything on me are you? Who do I pass the wooden spoon to now?
Question Author
I'll have to check my records (later perhaps?)
Another zero - Well done, Burgess for those tricky links and all those who somehow got on the right wavelength - you must have very devious minds!
Well done grenmus--I got 0 again--what a surprise!!
I'm rapidly going off the devious burgess and his even more devious link words!!
:o) B
0 for me too barbara, well done grenmus.
thanks crofter and burgess until next week then
jan
We demand the boobie prize. After all, we've earned it :-)

Congratus to Grenmus and also to Burgess for giving words with such multiple choices. Devious is the word.

Thanks once again to Crofter with his amazing abacus.

To all our Aber buddies 'Have a good week.'
Hi Ont-Ices! I have been the prize booby for some time now - I think it's 15 consecutive weeks with zero points, but as you may have noticed (hint! hint!) I have at last scored, so my wooden spoon is all set to change hands. As I haven't troubled Crofter's abacus much during the course of his game I've asked him to find out who my successor is. You may surprise yourselves and find that there is a more worthy recipient than either of you.
Hi, and well done to all who scored, and managed to access AB.
I was at work early on Saturday morning so tried to access AB when I was back home - to no avail. - back on now!
Also just to let you know I won't be able to join you for the usual fix of Sat. AB for the next 2 weeks, as I will be on holiday in bonnie Scotland. Don't be too rowdy whilst I'm away. lol
Hi Kettledrum
I've lost track of our zeros so perhaps they should have a list of losers as well as winners and the losers could have a go at posting their 'off the wall' questions that seem to go with their 'off the wall' answers and see how the 'brainy ones' manage. Obviously we losers are such an imaginative lot that the 'trained brains' would never catch us at all. :-)
That's our excuse and we're sticking to it.
