This is from Mike Mepham:

Dear Reader,

This week, September 16, see a mis-spelling of the current US Vice President's name: CHENEY has erroneously been provided with an extra letter. Once again, the solution will be voided and entries without that solution or entries with CHE?NEY will be accepted.

September 2
Another error in the GK Crossword of September 2 has meant that the final Down clue is missing. While I'm sure that you guessed already, the clue is:

44 Of unknown authorship (4)

...easy enough when you know what it is. The clue will be null and void for the purposes of the competition, so entries without that solution will be accepted.

He dosen't mention 12d - That is wrong too I think.
thanks for all your efforts BigMac ............ at least we now know the acceptable answer(s) to 50a.
Although there seems to be considerable opinion that 12d is incorrect, I do not agree ........ as drachm is an alternative spelling for dram which is equivalent to 1/16th of an ounce.
Well done BigMac, I wonder what will be wrong on Monday
Wonder what else poor old Mike does for a living, Hope he does not do brain surgery on the side, his errors may matter and apolgies would not be accepted would they?
jan
I wonder if the recent errors in the Saturday G/K crosswords could have been printer's ones. Nell
HI BigMac glad you got some reply I only got about Sept 2nd its very poor indeed as surely they should check out any grid or clues before being published, as article you submit for publication you double check any facts or misprints. wlll see what excuse they print next week.
Thanks to MM for his explanation. What he did not mention was that when these crosswords were originally published a couple of years ago they had the answers wrong then and have not even bothered to make a correction on the reprint. The last four weeks at least have been reprints. could we now have some originals as the price of the DT has gone up.
