Thoroughly deserved. I hope you enjoy your 6 months. Oh they didn't tell you that pretty much every mid term by-election turn over reverts to its original colour? Don't worry you'll get a big slab of tax payer cash to help you over it.

why are the tories clinging on? they have no ideas and aren't doing anything while the country just stagnates. are they hoping for a "falklands moment" to come to their rescue? what for? why do they want to be in power? For Funks Sake just put us all out of our misery and leave!! lift the boot off this country's neck.

Be careful - you might get what you wish for!

So what do you expect untitled, a mass Hari-kari? Roll out the red carpet to invite Shazza and Rodders round no 10 for Sherry?

", a mass Hari-kari? "

don't threaten me with a good time!

Question Author

untitled: "are they hoping for a "falklands moment" to come to their rescue?" - I think that is in progress right now with the anti-semite bomb that is slowly exploding. 6 months is an eternity in politics. I would not yet count my chickens.

Hmm: Wellingborough (swing of 28% on low turnout) conceivably might go back at the next election but it would have been No 226 on Labour's target list in a general election so I'm not sure that should be of much comfort

Yes I know it was a bad night for the Tories.  Not great for any party though considering the turnout which was quite bad.  In one the Labour party only got 107 more votes than they did at the last election and in the other they had over 5,000 less votes than in 2019.

isn't one of the seats due to be abolished anyway

Question Author

Don't bring that up shedman, you'll spoil the party! So basically the Tories didn't turn up to vote. That's probably a TINO protest in those seats. They'll both revert back at the next GE, as most By election flips do. Nothing to see here.

Yes but as observed above Labour doesn't need the likes of Wellingborough to win a GE. These aren't however outliers where a third party like the Lib Dems comes  in and does a "Shirley Williams". This is the main opposition party doing what the polls predict - for the fourth time in this Parliament  now - and simply winning - on the sort of swing that suggests a lot of less safe seats will be lost come the GE. It's what happened in 1997. There's no guarantee history will repeat itself but no sign it won't either

Methinks i see a sea-change,3T.The Tory nationalists out,the SNP nationalists out.A proper government in for a change. The Tories have had long enough in government, the SNP have had long enough in government. Both are getting past their sell-by date.Perhaps its time for change.

he red carpet to invite Shazza and Rodders round no 10 for Sherry?

plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose

Is this one of those you'll be prepared to have a bet on?

Question Author

I would tomus but I have been warned on pain of death not to do that anymore. It tends to frighten people when they are asked to put their money were there mouth is. I think one of them is going to dissappear anyway but I'd take the other with you if I was allowed. You see Labour actually lost 5000 votes in one and only gained a couple of hundred in the other. Small turnout = Tories not voting.

> So basically the Tories didn't turn up to vote.

Much like Remainers didn't turn up for the Brexit vote, and Brexit won with 37% of the electorate ... what did you say at the time? You lost, get over it, end of.

Question Author

I'm just explaining elipsis, I even posted this to congratuate them. They won fair and square but the analysis shows why.
