Good evening, all!

The C-word is almost upon us!

I've received my first C-word card. (OK, it's actually a multi-faith "Season's Greetings" card, from the Association of Women & Youth Against Fundamentalism, whose mailing list I seem to be on for some strange reason, but it still counts for me; I don't get many cards!)

I've also had my first C-word dinner (in Morrisons on Monday).

So it's definitely time for me to go and mash those sprouts into a totally soggy mess, in readiness for C-word day!

I managed my (fairly) regular score of FOUR out of seven in the main quiz this week:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-67370273

. . . but I could only achieve TWO out of five in the junior quiz:

Your turn!

I got five out of seven in the main quiz, so it's now 'chest-sticking-out' time for me!

Don't mention the C word please, Buenchico. I'm really enjoying November with the grockles gone home and not 'quite' time to be worrying about C :)

Anyway, I got the same scores as you

Well I matched your FOUR on the main quiz but only managed a disappointing ONE on the junior.

I was too busy preparing the sprouts to pay much attention to the News this week πŸ˜€   πŸ˜€   πŸ˜€   πŸ˜€   πŸ˜€

I wish AB could get the singe-spacing/double-spacing thing sorted out!  My original post was nicely split into several paragraphs but AB's server has removed all of the line spaces!

Well done, Bookbinder!
(Can you do as well in the junior quiz though, I wonder?)

Hiya, Clover!

Well done on matching my scores - not that it's ever very difficult to do so!  (Oh, Merry C-word, by the way!)  πŸ˜Š

Good evening, Canary42.

Yes, it's imortant to give priority to the sprouts, isn't it?  They need to be really mushy and watery on C-word Day to be at their very best by traditional British standards, don't they?  πŸ˜„

0/7! I've not been paying attention.πŸ™

Can I join the Quiz please?

Have given it a try and results were  4/7  and  1/5.

2/5 for the newsround quiz. Hopeless!

Evening Chris.

4/7

1/5

Hope this finds you well  ; ))

Oh dear, Tilly!  Think positive though: at least you can't get any worse next week πŸ˜‰

Greetings, Moorea7!  Everyone's welcome here!

Well done on matching me in the main quiz.  The junior quiz is never easy though.  Despite the fact that it's aimed at kids, very few people here ever seem to do well on it!

I hope that we'll be seeing you here more often.  (When we get close to the C-word, if Aunty Beeb follows here normal pattern, we'll have four 13-question quizzes, with each of those quizzes covering three months of the year.  They're always fun but always tricky too!)

Question Author

Well you did as well as I did on the junior quiz, Tilly2, anyway!

Good evening, Sam!  I'm fine thanks, as I hope that you are too.

4 & 1 seems a popular combination tonight, with Canary42 and Moorea7 both matching your scores!

2/7,1/5. Too much C excitement this week, went to my second C fair so far this year. Not only that, had a 4 am wake up call from Puss Puss and Bailey arguing over a dead mouse in the bathroom ( think Puss Puss brought it in through the window). Hope all is good with you and yours.

Hi, Campbellking!

I hope that you'll enjoy your pickled Brussels sprouts.  (Er, you did buy some, didn't you?)

At least you managed to avoid any zero scores!

I keep reading about C-word fairs that sound interesting but then I remember that there's nothing that I actually want to buy from them, so I hardly ever go to one.

If I get woken at 4am, it's usually by Chequers demanding food.  However invitations to view a recently-deceased bird or mouse aren't unknown for me at that time either!  (My lot never seem to squabble over ownership of the dear departed though).

I hope that you and the Darling Duo will have a lovely week!

4/7 v 3/7

2/5 v 2/5

6 v 5 Two genius performances πŸ˜Š

Shady's coat is beautiful with all the rainwater rinses he's been getting lately.

Excellent article this week in the Guardian's country diary by Mark Cocker about Alpheton Hall Wood, the number and variety of flora and fauna there is astounding, do you know it ?

Hope your three  (and you) have not had too many rinses  :-)

Thank you, Buenchico - will look forward to the "C" quizzes😊

'Evening Buen,

4/7 (snap) and a pleasing 4/5 = 8

Now, I must take you to task.  It's a bit early to be mashing your sprouts i.m.o.. Are you sure they are properly cooked soft enough?

Unless you put them on over a month ago I think you may have some solid bits.  That's one problem area.  The other is that if they are soft enough - you may have to slow the cooking time for the run-up to Christmas or risk them disintegrating totally.  :(  Over to you, but if in doubt then place each mashed sprout into an ice-cube tray, dob with butter and freeze until Advent.  You may get away with it if you then de-frost them and keep on a simmer until the big day itself - expert advice offered free.πŸ˜€

Good evening, chico. Four on the main quiz and three on the childrens so I beat you by one, somehow. Some guessing again! I think to do well on the kids quiz, you need to read up on what news they've been telling the children. I haven't really done this but have looked at the site a few times.

I hope you fur babies are well. We have our heating on for a little while morning and evening so Charlie is curled up right beside the radiator. Our Ebony decided last year that a wood burner was much better than a radiator and moved in next door, with the elderly lady. She's been visiting us every day this week so perhaps they haven't lit it yet.

Good Evening, Chris!

My scores are

4/7, 3/5

Glad all the fireworks are over as, last weekend, they really upset my lovely grand-pup who had to wear an ear defender scarf to calm him.

How did Chequers, Moonbeam and Tablo deal with the noise? Were they snuggled in safely for the nights?

I am enjoying some of the Xmas ads, especially the M &S one where they contemplate getting rid of 'elf on the shelf'. However, I am by no means ready or organised for the coming season.

I really need unusual ideas for doggy gifts, as my grand- pup seems to have a lot already, but also for my son and partner as puppy pet owners .  Last year I got them a throw with their pups pics on and they were thrilled. Anyone who has ideas for something lovely for a pet owner I would be grateful.

I wish you, Chequers, Moonbeam and Tablo a wonderful week ahead πŸ˜‹

You'll be most welcome, Moorea7!

Hiya, Haras2!

I'm never going to dispute the term 'genius', am I, even if it's completely inaccurate!

We don't seem to have had that much rain here but, when we do get it, Chequers' coat seem to be almost totally water-resistant.  He can come in from a downpour and still seem to be dry!

No, I don't know Alpheton Hall Wood (and there seems to be very little on the internet about it too).  It's off the Long Melford to Bury St Edmunds road, which isn't a part of Suffolk that I get to very much.  We've plenty of flora and fauna throughout the county though, with loads of deer in particular.

We're all fine here.  (Both Tablo and Moonbeam seemed to have dodgy tummies this morning but they've now fully recovered, thankfully).  I hope that you and the lovely Shady are well and will have a good (dry!) week ahead of you.

Someone has just been letting fireworks off near us. I thought that was all finished for this year, apart from new year, I suppose. The kitties don't mind unless it's a really huge bang. My daughter's collie is scared of his own shadow. He spends the evening of November the fifth in the utility room with Classic FM on. Apparently the calming music really works.
