I wrote a letter today, sealed it in an envelope, addressed it and stuck an old stamp on it.

Then I suddenly remembered that such stamps expired at the end of January.

But thankfully Google found me the information that the deadline has been extended.

Phew! The recipient is a charity, the last thing I wanted was to lumber them with an excess payment.

I missed that too, but I heard someone mention it the other day. I'd already swapped my old stamps anyway, just in case I also forgot and left it too late.
But since we are still mid-Jan the point is moot?
It was a third class stamp, Fitzer. :-)
I tried to buy 12 stamps in a Post Office yesterday and was told I had to buy them in books of 8.
This seems wrong to me.
I know people will claim that you have to buy biscuits in packets and can't just take one, but that isn't really the same thing.
go to a small post office if you have one they sell them in singles
This was a pretty small post office.

I only went there because the supermarket didn’t have any and I’d be resigned to buying in bulk there of course
I was told last week (in the post office) that I could use my ‘old’ stamps until July.
Yep, that's what it says in the link.
I once got a PO card through the door telling me that there was a letter addressed to me, to be collected at the local office, which had insufficient postage. I left it for weeks as I had no idea who it was from. On the last day available, I thought I'd better go and collect it, just in case. The excess postage was 8p. Yep, 8p, because it was an A4 envelope. There was only one thing inside - a £50 note.

says here available individually
It is probably undelivered in a striking Royal Mail sorting office.
