Reading TTT's post about the lottery winners I see they can't find their "friend John" who bought the winning ticket for them because he's moved.... "up North".

I'm listening to a play about two bank robbers who, when the job went wrong, moved up North to escape from the police and the big boss who wants the money.
They reckon they can disappear if they go "up North".

I'm asking because Dave has suggested we travel "up North" before returning to Ireland... :-(

I think you're right, Ael....anyway I was coping with everything you all posted....until Dave.
I did watch until the end but it was still raining when the north rose again...... :-(
And, if you believe what happens in Emmerdale, Gness, where do we Northerners go when we want to 'disappear'. Ireland! :-)
I do like a chuckle at you southerners thinking that your 'up north' is north, when it's still down south to us real northerners :-))))

When I was growing up in Cornwall, "up north" was generally defined as "the London side of Bodmin".

"Up North" is anywhere from Birmingham onwards. Really cold I believe.
Just googled... and everywhere upwards from Coventry is North. I wasn't as wrong as I thought.

How far do you have to go up the M1 before the sign saying, 'The North' disappears? I've only been up as far as Preston.
Is that right, Danny? The south is so friendly, I'm surprised if it is more so there (but I don't know). Has anyone here lived in both?
