Also, if 55a (Traffic -; visual cues illustrated and explained in the Highway Code) is Signs, that gives b?l?d?? for 39 down, British -; traditional tag-based game for beach, field or large garden. Totally stumped by this one.

Thanks all -- never heard of sipes, & that didn't come up on the One-look Dictionary. British Bulldog is a new one on me as well.
