a polish man hung himself in one our subways in our village. I didn't know this person, but i feel terrible, i want to sob. Why do i feel like this when i don't know this person? I feel these polish people are being exploited in my village, by the local businessmen making them work for a very measly wage, barely covering their bills/rent. I feel so sad, i am still sat her in my pjs, i am struggling to come to terms with this. He came to this country to better himself and improve quality of life for his family, and what does he do?? complete devastation for the loved ones he has left behind.

Sorry for sharing this, i had no one else to talk to, and if i tell my hubby how i'm feeling, he will just get paranoid.

If you've felt sadness yourself it's much easier to empathise with someone elses feelings.

Just because you didn't know someone doesn't mean you can't imagine the pain they must have been going through.

I hope he's at peace now.
Do you know why he did it, or are you just making assumptions?
I am sure that you would feel the same if anybody had hung themselves in your village phleb...you are just kind-hearted. If you get any anti-immigrant posts on this, just ignore them.
Hi phleb,
we don't know why he took his life, he could have had personal problems already. Still very sad & it's natural you/ I should have empathy for him.

Naomi. I am not making assumptions. If you have no positive input, then go away. I don't want to go into why, what and when!! A person has ended their life.
Very sad to hear this. Poor man.

There could have been many reasons why he did this, and some just push you too far. I don't know, I can't know a hundred percent why he did it.
I think Naomi means that it might have nothing to do with being exploited. He could have ended his life no matter what his wealth or circumstances.
phleb, there's no need to be rude. Suicide is always sad, and I'm not unsympathetic. I simply asked if you actually know he did it for the reason you stated because as Elina says, he could have had personal problems that you are unaware of.
Its no good having a go at Naomi. Don't know what mikey's on about with his anti-immigrant nonsense. All sorts of people hang themselves for all sorts of reasons. Wait for the inquest before guessing why he did it.
phleb, it's tragic when this man has made a decision to be parted many miles from his family to provide a better life for them. Yes I know people do that elsewhere too, but it's still very sad he died alone.
Despite the daily tragedy we read of and see on the News broadcasts, something close to home or close to our own feelings sometimes overwhelms us.

It is sad you have no one to talk to at home about it, but your compassion for this gentleman is understandable.
Well said phleb !
I remember a couple of years ago a man moved into my street, he kept himself to himself and just smiled at folk, but whenever he saw a dog he made a right fuss of it and asked about the dog, but then the next time, he'd ignore you. I hadn't seen him for a while, but his van was still outside his house and then I met a neighbour who told me he had hung himself. I didn't just feel like sobbing phleb, I did sob long and hard and I barely knew him. What you are feeling is totally natural and shows you care x
Mikey, which bit is 'well said'?
Everything that phleb has said today Naomi, and the post was meant for her.
Mikey, Svejk said he doesn't know what you're on about - and I have to agree with him.
Sadly, we know exactly what he means, Naomi.
phleb almost certainly does, and the post was hers !
Oh my! :o)
