Oh I hope so.....x
I would like to think so TWR, dunno about White van man though.
i hadn't heard about this - do you have a link?

As penAlties go. it's a good one!
Please provide a link.
Will only work if they bother to catch people. I see drivers blatantly holding mobiles to their ear nearly every day.

TWR, if you can tell me where to find the link, I will place it for you, I can't find it atm!
I;m not sure there is any formal proposal to introduce such penalties. But there are some rumblings.

It's quite clear that the current penalties are insufficient as the law is generally disregarded. Use of mobiles whilst driving, especially faffing about texting and Twittering, has reached scandalously epic levels and huge danger is now prevalent.

As with all laws the problems is not simply one of insufficient penalties but insufficient enforcement.
brilliant idea, should remove a good 50% of the cars currentyl on the road, thereby also easing congestion at the same time.

sooner they bring it in the better
Correct NJ - about as effective as enforcing litter dropping....
Could not come too soon. Let us hope it is vigorously enforced.
I have to say I think it's about time.
I see so many holding the phone to their ear, usually driving something commercial.
Not necessary, when there is hands free.
I won't answer mine at all when driving.
This is all I can find - proposals to double the penalty points for using a mobile phone while driving from three to six are being considered.

It's already illegal though baz and carries as a minimum points, has had almost no effect though IMO.
So many people think that it won't happen to them and are addicted to their phones as if everything must be an emergency. Changing the law will not change attitudes.

My mate got points and was fined for reading a text while stopped at a red light. She didn't notice the police car in the lane next to her.
agchristie,^^ 20 Years ago people thought that way about drink driving .
Now it is just not accepted and you stand a good chance of being reported for it. People used to boast and joke about how they drive when *** ,try doing that now and someone will phone the police and report you.
I will soon change when we see a few delivery drivers losing their jobs due to a ban.
Fair point Eddie but Im not sure about mobile phones somehow. True, there was always a big advertising campaign over the years on TV about the dangers of drink driving but there's nothing about use of phones, maybe there should be....
