Hi- I've subscribed to about 3 threads on this and no-one has come up with a reasonable answer
I think it's likely someone will know it but will be keeping quiet on this one if they're taking part.
I got bogged down with answers involving ALE
have we got how many letters?
I have not seen a letter count on the previous threads about this so I assume the count isn't given.
The best I could come up with was Alessia (Ale+Asia) but that's stretching it.
Someone suggested Liquid Sky but that seemed weak to me
What ideas did you have for possible parts of the answer, Diddydodd. We might be able to work something out between us from each other's ideas
hi just had a thought
how about alex parks (dont know where the x comes in but!!!)
Thanks, smurf. It's at least as good as anything else we've seen (apart perhaps from Alessia) but, as you say, doesn't explain the x. Some other clues are a bit dodgy though so it may be right
I did wonder about Hale and Pace but can't jump from Space (big area) to Pace.
I also considered some Haley names or Helens (start sounds a bit like Ale)

Hi every one. I have had a name on some paper in front of me for quite a while but had forgotten why. Now I know. The name is Bet Carter. There is a singer called Betty Carter - perhaps abbreviated to Bet. A large area of land is called a tract. Bitter is beer, mild is beer. Put tract in beer you get Bet Carter ---Be tract er. Tract becomes Be(t) cart (er). Hope it makes sense cos that is my answer.
Yes it make sense if the clue is a bit weak.
Beer was the other option (although lager is also beer so why mention just bitter and mild), and the clue does't say any words should be reversed.
I couldn't think of a group/artist beginning with Beer
I also wondered whether the 'mild or bitter' could be BREW.
Maybe someone called Bruce?
How about if Mild and Bitter are opposites and large area is a tract?
Opposites Attract?
Hardly famous but they do exist

Ales a Villages?
Clutching at straws now.
Okay- what about Can (big in the 70s)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Can_(band)
Can you get mild or bitter in a can.
And Cannes (pronounced Can) is a large area in France

I like the idea of 'opposites attract' but I have scoured the web sites and found no group or singer by that name.
They definitely exist- I found them on a few sites, e.g. https://soundcloud.com/opposites-attract-band
However I am not sure mild and bitter are opposites- the setter would have gone for something like bitter and sweet, positive and negative, black and white.

I did wonder whether the mild and bitter might be references to flavours or tastes, rather than ale/beer. I can't think of a band/singer though.

As for large area I have thought about park, estate, field city, town, country, Asia etc but come up with nothing that fits with the rest of the clue.

Going back to beer I did think of coupling BEER with LEA (area of grassy land) or Leigh (town) to give what sounds like Billie (name of Billie Piper on her early hits)
al green
Green day?
I can see the Green, pixie, but not the Day part.
Given the sloppy setting of quite few other clues in this quiz I think Al Green is probably right. Having said that, I suppose it should be seen as a fun quiz for a good cause
