Can someone please tell me what the badges and best answer's are all about on the profiles. Is it the same as kiddies getting 'gold stars' for school work well done?

Well you'd think so
They're labelled as to what they are if you click on the "badges" tab in a person's profile.

Mind you, you've got one for a 10 years service and you only joined last year, so its a bit of a moot point really ;-)
No, it's about volume of replies! and it's not correct anyway. It still says I've been here 10 years.
Maybe you get the 10 year service badge when it starts to feel as though you've been here that long
sandy.....LOL

squad - that hurt
I copied and printed my ones, put a pin through them and wear them on my anorak, I'm the coolest loon around now
steg, so that's what they mean by.... anorak :-)
You got it,boxy.... Steg is eastern central highland Gaelic for anorak
Time flies eh?

(We thought we'd already run the reprocessing of badges script - apparently not! We're running it this evening, so badges should be accurate by Monday.)

Additionally to answer the question: "What are they for?"

1. Badges can help new users identify when someone is something like an "authority" in a section - i.e. if someone sees you have a badge for giving 10 Technology answers marked as best by others, they can assume you know what you're talking about when it comes to technology.

2. The "Best Answers" allow users to see what the original poster thought was the best answer to their question.

3. It's a bit of silly fun.

3.) is true.

What symbol can one portray to indicate a "nervous cough.?

Can we get a Naughty Step badge or similar when we reach 10, 25 etc answers removed?

I believe I'm on 3 at the moment.
3 is true except when it annoys peeps :-(
I have 14 according to my profile, but only two of them are valid, I think. If I hang on until the end of February I can claim one for five years. I await the updating with bated breath!
peeps shouldn't let daft things like badges and best answers bother them.
Wonder if some peeps actually take it seriously.
P.S. I like it and if it is sorted out I think I will like it even more. I am probably alone in liking it, but I don't mind!
Hope they don't take it seriously, missprim. Surely everyone knows it is just a bit of fun!
