Hello everyone, I hope you've all been to Church, good day to you all.

Never done a 'barred' Hypnos puzzle before. Only grid ones in the Independent.

This should be fun, at least I now have ODQ5 !

Happy solving and the best of luck gang.

Hello Tweaker,
A little more challenging this week. You will be assisted by ODQ5. Off to London this afternoon, Brum on monday, back home tuesday, see you all after that.

Ok DocHH, travel safe.
Hello tweaker, you are an early bird. Haven't started it yet but reading that I need ODQ5 has not cheered me, I suspect the CCC will be removed from the DC door and normal service of ice-packs on the head resumed! Busy in the garden today getting the last of the spuds in and preparing the greenhouse for the toms. Have a nice time DocHH.
Question Author
hi devadolly, weather is nice today (in suffolk) that is, I am glad that I picked ODQ5 instead of 4,3 I'm not sure if whats needed is in edition 5+ ? I sure some one will tell you if it's in the edition you have.
Hi All
Why is a telegraph fountain pen like a double-decker bus?.....
Haven't started today's yet, the opening remarks made me feel that this could take some time! Happy travelling Doc HH - business or pleasure?
Hi again. No tweaker, my edition is revised 4th and also have a concise ed. If it doesn't mean that you have just won another one, I give up ringer!
Spot on DD! Just bought a pack of ink cartridges so I can use them. Supposedly a variety of 30 assorted. It actually contained 17 turquoise, 13 pink and 1 purple!
Question Author
How many have you won Ringer ?
Many congratulations Ringer!

I am having trouble with this today. I've done all the clues but, as always, with puzzles like this I'm missing some of the exraneous letters, especially near the end which will give the author. I have the last four there and can work out, for the most part, what are the key words along the way. Any pointers as to the author would be most welcome. Also, it's obvious what some of the unclued entries are but I'm still trying to link everything up.
Afternoon all. Trickier than normal, this. For those, like me, who don't have ODQ5, the following link is invaluable. I only realised after I'd finished, but it allows one to dig out the quote once a single one of the component words has been found.

Cheers all
Hi all.

Wasn't able to start this till this morning. I have a full grid, save the unclued lights, and the quote/author. But, how it all ties together is eluding me at the moment. Sounds like it's time to put it down and exercise something other than my brain! It's 54 degrees (F) and a day in the yard awaits. Something will probably click as I'm transplanting the hosta. I'll check back in tonight,
turnerjmw's link is valuable, as the (rather splendid) quotation certainly doesn't occur in the seventh edition of ODQ. A nice puzzle from Hypnos.
Thanks, Turnerjmw, for the link and congratulations Ringer. An enjoyable puzzle.
Congratulations Ringer. I have the grid filled but do not yet have the quotation etc., oddly it looks like I don't need to get this, but I will still plod on
The penny done dropped. It definitely helps to pay attention to the entire quote. Very clever puzzle.

My daughter made it out of Greece, thank goodness, and is now off to France with her boyfriend. It turns out she gets to spend a whole 2 days at home before her summer internship starts in NYC. :(

Happy travels, doc.
PDM as well, neat puzzle, although I still find it odd that it was fairly easy to finish without getting the quote and theme.
A G-S, true, but without the quote and theme the unclued lights are gibberish.
I managed to fill them in using the Web Kills Me hint and then work out why. I think maybe this part of the instruction was not necessary
Thanks Turnerjmw for the link. It has been added to my list of favourites. Crossword itself is now ready for posting.
Can I add my thanks too for the link. I kept making mistakes with the extra letters but managed to get there by hitting on the author. I would agree that it was a quite neat puzzle that had me guessing for some time.
