My Dad always listened to Sing Something Simple. He also watched the Black and White Minstrel show on TV. I don't suppose that would be allowed in todays age of PC.

what was it about Polly?
And waht radio show from back then had the sound of wind blowing and a man calling out 'hey you down there with the glasses on' or words to that effect (talking 60s i think)
It was just a really good music station.

that was the Billy Cotton Band Show prudie, his son went on to be head of Light Entertainment at the Beeb

My mum always did the ironing to Sing Some Simple or maybe Semprini's Serenade - after we'd listened to Jimmy Clitheroe or the Navy Lark. I thought Jimmy Clitheroe was hilarious.
